Some people
seem to think of
Houston as a town full
of urban cowboys and
oilfield rednecks whose
primary passions are
drinking beer and
having rodeos. Along
the same thoughts, they
can hardly imagine that
the hotels Houston
offers are much
different than the ones
they see in old
Westerns, complete with
a saloon next
door.
Nothing could
be further from the
truth. While Houston
has its share of
cowboys and rednecks,
the city is actually
quite blessed with a
culture and quality of
life that is as nice as
any city in the United
States can offer.
Originally founded in
1837 with hope of
becoming the future
capital of a Republic
of Texas, it failed to
live up to that hope
and for a number of
years was famous for -
nothing much. After the
oil boom started at
Spindletop in 1901,
Houston began to
develop into one of the
most powerful and rich
financial centers
dedicated to developing
this crucial
resource.
The city has
undergone much change
in the last few
decades. The oil
industry slump that
began in the early
1980's set Houston back
a bit, but since that
time the city has
recovered and come back
stronger than ever. The
people here are very
optimistic, resilient,
and capable of bouncing
back from anything that
might happen. This is a
town where people are
still polite and have
respect for each
other.
At one time
considered a very
regional community,
Houston now boasts a
very diverse ethnic
makeup and is a place
where anyone of any
background can come and
find bountiful
opportunity. The city
has a population from
various ethnic and
religious backgrounds
and a large and growing
international
community. Like the
community itself, the
hotels Houston has
built in the last few
decades have become
every bit as luxurious
and comfortable as
those you will find in
Paris or any other
great tourist
destination.
In the
mid-twentieth century,
Houston became the home
of the Texas Medical
Center - the world's
largest concentration
of healthcare and
research institutions -
and NASA's Johnson
Space Center, where the
Mission Control Center
is located.
Come visit
Houston and stay a
while. Make yourself at
home and enjoy what we
have to offer! You will
find the hotels Houston
provides for visitors
are excellent. Come
once, I'll bet you want
to come back
soon!
